Massage Therapy is a scientific systematic approach to treating soft tissue, and various connective tissue imbalances in the human body. Muscles are isolated, and fixed or moveable pressure is applied in order to reduce pain and improve mobility.
Massage Therapy is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client. Practitioners utilize primarily the hands, knuckles and forearms to employ a variety of massage techniques.
The primary goal of massage therapy is to enhance the bodies own healing processes, and to promote health and a sense of well being. Our Massage Therapists have been selected for their experience and interest in Physical Therapy.
Types of Massage
In North America massage therapy is broken down into two classifications, relaxation and therapeutic. During relaxation massage, commonly known as Swedish massage the practitioners focus is on purely relaxing the individual by applying strokes that are lighter and faster. During therapeutic work the massage therapist targets deeper muscle layers and connective tissue to reduce pain and enhance range of motion. Deep tissue work tends to focus on a specific problem such as chronic pain or a repetitive strain injury.
Therapeutic (therapy for hundreds of ailments and health conditions)
This massage technique focuses on specific needs associated with injury, chronic conditions and muscle tension
Sports (a firm massage for the athlete in you)
This firm massage helps relieve muscle pain. This technique helps to relax tight muscles and improves range of motion.
Relaxation (the best stress reducer!)
Reduce muscle tension and fatigue with this conventional massage. The specific and time tested long strokes and circular motion results in improved flexibility increase circulation plus a deep sense of relaxation.
Benefits of Massage
According to the August 2005 issue of Consumer Reports magazine, 34,000 people ranked deep tissue massage more effective in relieving osteoarthritis pain than exercise, prescription drugs, diet and OTC drugs. Deep tissue massage also received a top ranking for relieving fibromyalgia pain.
Regular massage benefits both your physical and mental well being. The benefits can vary from individual to individual.

Paul Sherley
Beddington & Thorncliffe EET RMT, Registered Massage Therapist
Given my passion for massage therapy, I decided to pursue a career in this field. I am fascinated with the human body, its movements and its muscles, and as such, my goal as a massage
therapist is to provide the best possible therapy so as to make my clients pain free. Each individual is unique and each treatment should be as well. My promise to my clients is to provide the best possible therapy so as to make my clients pain free, leading them to enjoy the quality of life that they desire.
I take a holistic approach to massage therapy, which means the whole body is considered in each treatment. Better results are obtained by examining and correcting the source of the pain and dysfunction rather than treating the symptoms. This holistic approach allows for balance in the body.
I began to study Massage Therapy at Mount Royal College in 2004 and graduated from the 1100 hour program in 2007. Since then I have also completed courses in Reiki and I enjoy my role as a Reiki practitioner. I am currently a member of the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC).
In addition to having my Massage Therapy diploma, I previously graduated with honours from the DeVry Institute of Technology with an Electronic Engineering Technology diploma. When not massaging I enjoy fishing, wood working, exercising and exploring pathways on my
bike.
